Liaoning Huajin adopts Dow bulk ABS technology

China Liaoning News, Dow Technology Transfer (Dow) (the business unit of the Dow Chemical Company) announced on the 12th that Liaoning Huajin Chemical has an annual output of 140,000 tons of ABS resin (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) The Dow bulk ABS process technology is used in the factories of copolymers (ABS). The factory will be completed in 2011. Liaoning Huajin is the 10th Chinese chemical company that applied Dow technology in the past two years.

“Although the bulk ABS process technology was recently included in Dow's technology transfer list, this technology has been used for more than 40 years in Dow's factory,” said Dr. Zhang Peifang, vice president of global business operations at Dow Technology. “We were very excited about the selection of Dow Technology by Liaoning Huajin Chemical. With the continuous growth of ABS demand in the Chinese market, we believe that this technology can help customers maintain their leading position in ABS production.”

Compared to conventional batch-to-bat chemistry ABS processes, Dow's bulk ABS process technology produces high-purity resins and achieve batch consistency. As the amount of impurities is successfully minimized, the background color of the final product is more “white” and easier to apply and color.

At present, China's ABS consumption is five times that of the United States; by 2012, China's ABS demand will reach 4.3 million tons, which is more than half of the current total global ABS production.
