Brief analysis of three common classifications of varnish and their characteristics

There are many types of glazing oil, but commonly used glazing oil can be roughly divided into three categories: oily glazing oil, water-based glazing oil and UV glazing oil. According to the actual application trend of varnish and the improvement of environmental protection requirements, the use of oily varnish will decrease day by day, and the application space of water-based varnish and UV varnish is very broad. The following mainly introduces water-based varnish and UV Varnish.

(1) Water-based varnish

Water-based varnish (referred to as WATER BASE DVARNISH in English, or DISPEERSE DVARNISH), mainly composed of water-soluble resin and water-dispersed resin Environmental pollution, with fast drying speed, good film transparency, stable performance, wide equipment adaptability, good wear resistance and flatness of glazed surface, wide post-print processing adaptability, good heat sealing performance, safe and reliable use, storage The characteristics of convenient transportation, etc., are more and more valued by food, medicine and tobacco carton packaging and printing enterprises. When using UV water-based varnish, the following typical problems should be noted:

â‘ How to ensure that the underlying ink can be fully dried after applying the water-based varnish, first of all, it is necessary to ensure the permeability of the water-based varnish, so that the wet ink layer can contact the air to dry the oxide film; in addition, it can be improved by a moderate The hot air temperature has solved this problem.

â‘¡The gloss of the water-based glaze coating is lower than that of the UV glaze. In practice, a small amount of high-boiling point solvent can be added to the water-based glaze to swell the emulsion particles and promote the formation of a coating film with good flatness, thus Improve the flatness of the surface of the coating film, and finally achieve the purpose of improving the gloss of the water-based varnish coating.

(2) UV varnish

UV glazing is a method of curing glazing paint by using UV (abbreviation of Ultraviole, ultraviolet). It has the characteristics of fast curing paint and low-temperature curing ink, which is not easy to fade, which helps to solve many problems in the gloss processing of paper prints. Therefore, it has been widely used in the gloss processing of paper containers, trademarks, book covers, packaging boxes and other printed products. application.

UV varnish contains almost no solvent, and the emissions of organic volatiles are very small, thus reducing air pollution; UV varnish does not contain solvent, and does not require heat energy during curing, and the energy consumption required for curing is relatively small. In addition, UV varnish has strong affinity for ink and strong adhesion; UV varnish has high effective components, less volatilization, and relatively low consumption; the surface of the printed product after UV varnish curing is more wear-resistant, chemical-resistant and resistant Chemical, good stability, can be scrubbed with water and ethanol; UV glazing products are not easy to stick, they can be stacked and stacked after curing, which is conducive to post-process processing operations.

When using UV varnish, you should pay attention to the following typical problems:

UV varnish is not suitable for operation on permeable paper. Because the low-molecular materials in UV coatings easily penetrate into the paper, causing the paper to darken or even penetrate. At present, most UV varnishes are applied to printed paper with aluminum coating.
