Guide
We all know that "keeping a good mood is good for your health." In fact, not only good emotions are enough. The latest study reveals that we need a variety of positive emotions, from enthusiasm, joy, and calmness. These different levels of positive emotions help to reduce the level of inflammation in the body, thereby controlling premature death, diabetes, etc. risk.

There are many kinds of emotions, and the types of emotions that each person experiences every day are not the same, and there is great flexibility between emotions. Scientists call this diversity "Emotional Diversity" (Emodiversity).
Now, a study published in the journal Emotion shows that people who experience a variety of positive emotions in their daily lives, from enthusiasm, joy, and calmness, have lower levels of inflammation in their bodies. This means that they have a lower risk of premature death, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases.
Diversified positive emotions are more important than single emotions
This research is deeper than our daily emphasis on “keep a good mood and be healthyâ€. It links “emotional diversity†to health and uses relevant methods to assess ecosystem biodiversity.
A person with low emotional diversity has less emotional changes most of the day and is concentrated in individual types. Conversely, people with high emotional diversity experience more emotions each day and have a uniform distribution of emotions.
“Happiness has many experiences. The positive emotions of diversification can avoid being dominated by any single emotion, thus reducing the probability of mental illness.†Author, Professor of Human Development, Human Ecology Institute, Weill Cornell Medicine Anthony Ong, professor of geriatrics and palliative medicine, said.
Diverse positive emotions help to reduce inflammation and health
Little is known about the biological mechanisms by which emotions affect health. Now, this research is trying to fill the gap. Specifically, it reveals a potential biological pathway—the effect of different positive emotions on systemic inflammation, which is related to long-term health.
The research team used 175 people aged 40-65 years to study the negative and positive emotions they experienced in 30 days. Every night, they classify the 16 positive emotions experienced on this day (from interest, positive to happy, excited, interesting, inspirational, lively, active, intense). At the same time, they also need to classify 16 negative emotions (fear, fear, anxiety, worry, nervousness, anxiety and shame).
In addition to the emotional assessment, the researchers analyzed the participants' blood samples and analyzed the levels of the three inflammatory markers (interleukin 6, C-reactive protein, fibrinogen) circulating in them.
The results showed that the degree of negative emotional diversity (whether high or low) had no effect on the level of inflammation. However, people with more positive emotions have a lower level of inflammation than those with a small positive emotional diversity.
“Emotions help people optimize and regulate behavior in the best way to meet their needs. Our findings suggest that excessive or excessive positive emotional consumption can affect the functioning and health of emotional ecosystems,†emphasizes Ong.
How to maintain a variety of positive emotions?
There is increasing evidence that emotions associated with systemic levels of inflammation can affect health, leading to diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, rheumatoid diseases and osteoporosis, and even premature death.
How does this research enlighten "health"? Ong said: "When you feel good, remember to label them with 'tags'. In daily life, tagging with specific words and classifying positive emotions can help We feel more different emotions in different environments."
