European waste paper recycling rate reached 53.9%

According to figures released by the Finnish Forest Industry Association on the 5th, in Europe, nearly 43.7 million tons of waste paper was recycled last year, and the waste paper recycling rate reached 53.9%.

The recovered waste paper is usually reused as a raw material for the paper industry. According to the goals set by the European paper and paperboard industry, by 2005 European waste paper recycling rate will reach 56%.

Last year, Finland recovered nearly 749,000 tons of waste paper, and the recycling rate of waste paper reached 67%, ranking first in the world.

Finland is a major producer of paper in the world and attaches great importance to the recovery and utilization of waste paper. Of the waste paper and paperboard recovered in Finland last year, 97% were used as raw materials for the paper and paperboard industry for the production of cardboard products and newsprint, and some office waste paper was used for the production of soft paper such as toilet paper.
