Digital printing equipment is generally divided into color digital printing machines and black and white digital printing machines; according to the type of paper, it can be divided into single-page and continuous paper digital printing machines, but no matter what classification is carried out, each category has different brands , Digital printers with different speeds and different functions. As far as the daily use notes of digital printing press paper are concerned, any digital printing device will have a set of paper use notes that conform to its own structure, performance and operation. If it needs to be accurate to each machine and each paper, then there are As many digital printing presses as there should be as many paper use precautions. Therefore, this article lists only some general notes on the use of paper, which will be explained in the following five aspects.
1. Use of plain paper
Before using digital printing equipment, you should first read the paper manual carefully to understand its requirements for paper, that is, what standards are applicable to the paper, and what are the compliance parameters of each standard. Generally, the paper that meets the standard needs to meet the three standards of paper type, weight, filler and slurry. This requires a full-scale test of the paper. The test indicators include the following 3 points.
(1) Paper type. 9 items including hardness, electrical resistance, difference in characteristics on both sides, moisture content, ash content (content of other components except pulp), packaging and storage conditions, post-print curvature, fixing (ability to permanently absorb ink color), and paper feeding conditions Indicators to check whether the paper type meets the specified requirements of the digital press.
(2) Paper weight. Usually the user manual will have a quantitative range of paper available for the printing press. Using lighter (or thinner) paper may cause the paper to tear, break the paper feed hole, or load paper incorrectly. The use of heavier weight (or thicker) paper may cause misfeeds (paper feed is not smooth) or stains, peeling from the feeder, etc. This is because the paper is too hard. To avoid these problems, make sure to use paper that meets the quantitative requirements.
(3) Paper loading and slurry. If the amount of filler is too high and the composition of the pulp is too low, even if the amount of paper meets the specifications, the hardness of the paper is not appropriate. This can also cause printer jams, incorrect folding or wrinkling.
Therefore, we should strictly follow the paper manual of the digital printing machine and use the paper that meets the applicable scope of the digital printing machine.
Second, the use of recycled paper
If you want to use recycled paper, be sure to check the print quality and folding function in advance. These inspections are done for each box of recycled paper. After checking the above items, contact the paper manufacturer and ask whether the recycled paper maintains the consistent paper characteristics.
Pay attention to the following points when using recycled paper.
(1) Since recycled paper is susceptible to moisture, please wrap it with a moisture-proof film for storage.
(2) Recycled paper will produce a lot of paper dust. These paper dust will adhere to the rollers, sensors, paper feed channels, and drum devices, which will cause various problems. Therefore, be sure to clean the paper dust frequently.
(3) Because recycled paper is susceptible to moisture and bending, and its hardness is low, paper feed errors often occur on recycled paper.
(4) Excessively bent recycled paper may cause paper feeding or stacking errors.
(5) Recycled paper with low mechanical strength may cause damage to the feed hole, incorrect folding or wrinkling.
(6) Matte recycled paper will reduce print quality.
(7) If a pile of paper contains recycled paper with different properties, the print quality may vary.
3. Use of special paper
Paper mills will continue to develop and sell new types of special paper. In order to use these special papers, the product must be tested in advance. Some common precautions for using special paper are as follows.
(1) Label paper
Label paper must be stored in an environment with a temperature of 15 ° C to 32 ° C and a humidity of 40% to 70%, and must be used within one year after production. After leaving the factory, the label paper must be packed with moisture-proof film or similar packaging as soon as possible to prevent moisture. The print quality of the tangent part may be reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid printing on the tangent part. For printing accuracy, a 2mm border should be left. If the quality or thickness of the label and the back sheet are different, the fuser heating may cause the paper to curl. In order to avoid such situations, labels and back pages must use electrostatic printing paper, such paper will not have obvious curl when heated. If the label paper stack is too high, the adhesive on the bottom paper may be squeezed out due to the weight of the stack. Therefore, consult the paper manufacturer for the maximum stack height.
(2) Paper with holes
Perforated bumps or burrs may negatively affect print quality. Therefore, make sure to use only paper that has no bumps or burrs. When designing the print format, avoid printing near the perforation. For printing accuracy, each perforation should leave a margin of about 3.5mm.
(3) Sealed envelope paper
Uneven adhesive can cause misfeeds or negatively affect print quality. Therefore, the use of print media with such problems should be avoided. The printing of important data should not be near the adhesive, and a frame of at least 3.5 mm should be left. If too many envelopes are sealed together, the stacking pressure may cause the media to stick together. Therefore, you should consult the manufacturer for the maximum stackable height. Partially sealed envelopes have a shorter storage time than ordinary media, which also requires consultation with the manufacturer for shelf life and storage conditions.
(4) Post media (postcard type)
Post paper media (postcard type) is coated on both sides (possibly one side) with adhesive. Since the pre-printing environment (such as ink type and color quantity) of such media is very strict, please consult the paper manufacturer before purchasing. Each side of the print media is coated with pressure sensitive adhesive. Therefore, when the surface coated with the adhesive is printed, the adhesion may fail due to insufficient adhesive strength. In order to prevent this kind of problem, you should avoid printing the content in the symmetrical position where the folding is glued when designing the page.
(5) Colored paper
Colored paper has a smoother surface than normal paper because colorants and fixing agents (resins) penetrate into the paper fibers. Therefore, the toner does not easily penetrate into the paper fibers, and the toner fixing strength is low. When the adsorption force between the fixing agent and the toner is low, the toner fixing strength is particularly low. If you must use color paper, you need to carefully check the printing conditions in advance and preprint.
(6) Embossed paper
Embossed paper with company logo and other marks is called embossed paper. The inconsistency or unevenness of the local thickness of the paper may cause paper jams or negatively affect the print quality. Carefully check the printing conditions and pre-print in advance.
(7) Coated paper
Paper coated with titanium oxide, kaolin, clay or calcium carbonate is used as art paper, coated paper, lightly coated paper or fully coated paper. Generally, coated paper has low toner fixing strength and low print quality. When printing coated paper, consult the paper manufacturer in advance to carefully confirm the printing conditions and pre-print.
(8) Carbonless copy paper
Carbonless copy paper consists of 3 parts that can sense pressure. On contact printing machines, carbonless copy paper can realize synchronous printing. The pressure-sensitive medium can transfer the print content to the second and third parts. When using a non-contact printer, all 3 parts need to be printed separately and then bound together. Each part of the carbonless copy paper is very thin, prone to paper feeding or stacking errors, or the pressure-sensitive medium that melts the paper due to temperature factors. Therefore, before printing a large number of carbonless copy paper, it is necessary to do a spare parts replacement and maintenance condition assessment.
4. Paper to avoid
The unsuitability of paper is composed of a series of factors, which will reduce the print quality or cause some abnormal paper feed errors. It is best not to use the following types of paper:
(1) Incorrectly folded paper;
(2) Torn paper or paper with irregular holes;
(3) Paper with missing corners;
(4) Curved, wrinkled, undulating or sinking paper;
(5) Paper placed obliquely;
(6) Paper with small pieces of paper and external objects (such as wax, metal sheets, glue, resin, etc.);
(7) Special paper with glue or tape.
5. Storage of paper
In addition to paying attention to the matching of paper type and paper weight with the performance of digital printing machines, daily paper storage boxes can not be ignored. If stored improperly, it will cause paper deformation and will directly affect the effect of printed products or cause printing failures. .
First, the paper cannot be placed directly on the floor. Directly placed on the floor will cause the paper to get wet. Please place the carton horizontally on a flat shelf, flat shelf, or trailer. To prevent paper deformation, do not stack too much paper on top of each other. The stacking height should not be greater than 1 meter. In order to prevent the paper from drying or being damp, it is best to place the paper in a sealed box at 10 ° C to 30 ° C and maintain a relative humidity of 40% to 50% (the maximum drying temperature is 29 ° C).
When you open the box and find that the paper does not have waterproof storage conditions, please place the paper box in a suitable environment with waterproof measures. The recommended environment is 15 ℃ ~ 25 ℃, relative humidity 30% ~ 70%. Even in a dry and moisture-proof environment, the paper cannot be left for too long (more than 6 months). Once the paper tray is opened, the paper must be wrapped with a waterproof membrane to prevent it from becoming too dry or damp. Paper should not withstand sudden temperature changes to prevent it from becoming too dry or damp. It is best to ship to the place of use in advance, buffer for some time and then turn on.
The above is some basic digital printing press paper daily experience, I hope it can help digital printing practitioners.
