Brazil invents new packaging recycling law

Brazilian researchers have recently developed a new method for recycling reinforced packaging and have filed a patent application.

Reinforced packages made of paper, plastic, and aluminum foil layered and pressed more and more are being used in the packaging of foods and pharmaceuticals. Although reinforced packaging has the characteristics of durability, corrosion resistance, and high freshness, it is The structural characteristics make their recovery a headache, and their number in landfills is increasing day by day.

A new off-technology developed by eight researchers at the Brazilian Paraná Polytechnic recently made it possible to recycle the reinforced packaging material. Ali Sandero, who is in charge of the study, said: “I used a special chemical solvent to recover the three components in the package. The formula for this solvent is not disclosed at the moment because we began to apply for a patent 3 months ago. It takes a year to get the final certification."

Alishandro said that after immersing the fortified bag in this solvent for two and a half minutes, the plastic, aluminum and paper in the packaging material will be layered and the three layers separated by hand, and the residual solvent is removed by high pressure. Substances can be easily separated and recovered. This solvent is effective for any kind of paper and PVC plastic or polyethylene.

Alessandro has great confidence in his research results: "This technology is not only suitable for the packaging of recycled milk and juice, but also for the packaging of more cumbersome products such as salt, vacuum coffee and eggs. We are still making the cost of the shell. It is estimated that this solution has not started commercial production, but the use of technology is not very high, and the solvent's raw materials are not difficult to find.”
