It provides new ideas for solving the worldwide problem of loss of mobility after subtotal cervical and total decompression and fusion." Cai Wei said that in 2016, they launched the world's first movable artificial atlantoaxial joint replacement. "After postoperative pain relief, neurological recovery, cervical spine rotation is well preserved, which is the biggest advantage compared to general traditional surgery."

Liu Boyu, a member of the project on the micro-nano scale typical metal materials, said that the strong demand for miniaturization of functional devices is driving the rapid development of micro-nano technology, and the demand for high-performance long-life devices is expected. The theoretical knowledge system of scale material structure and performance was established as soon as possible. Repairing the defects inherent in these micro-nano materials is like "massing" metal materials. “However, there is no mature theoretical system to describe the mechanical properties and internal mechanisms of micro-nano-scale materials.”

"On the one hand, we systematically studied the mechanical properties of typical metal materials at micro-nano scales and their potential physical mechanisms, and on the other hand proposed a targeted toughening strategy based on its plastic deformation mechanism." Liu Boyu said, “Our research has found that the defects inherent in these micro/nano materials can be repaired by low-intensity and multiple-time loading. The repaired metal materials can reach a very high level, and we have a large scale in our mobile phones and computers. The components of the integrated components are on the micro-nano scale, and our research has found that these micro-nano scale defects can be repaired."
