ODX (Open Diagnostic Data Exchange) is an open diagnostic data format standard used for the interaction of diagnostic data throughout the vehicle life cycle. ODX was originally proposed by ASAM (Automation and Measurement System Standard Association) and formed the standard MCD-2D. The currently released versions are: ODX2.0.1 and ODX2.2.0. In 2008, based on ODX 2.2.0, an ISO standard-ISO 22901-1 was formed.
Why do we need to establish ODX data format standards?
Before ODX was not proposed, due to different application scenarios and development tools, the data formats used in different stages of diagnostic development were different. And in the process of development, testing, production and after-sales, information is mostly exchanged in .doc or .rtf format. Therefore, the data exchange is very confusing and complicated, and the risk of error in data exchange is high.

Because ODX data has open source and standardized attributes, which makes ODX as the data exchange format in the vehicle diagnosis process, the entire process will be easier, faster, and less prone to errors.

Application of ODX data format
Because the core members of the ASAM organization are mainly European and American OEMs and equipment manufacturers, such as Audi, BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen, Bosch, Softing, Vector, etc., ODX is widely used in Europe and the United States.
ODX is still not widely used in China's local OEMs. Currently, only SAIC and Fengqiu Technology are members of ASAM in the automotive industry. However, with the continuous improvement of the domestic OEM's independent research and development capabilities and the establishment of joint ventures with foreign countries, ODX is gaining more and more attention, and everyone is also actively trying to use ODX data. At present, domestic FAW, SAIC, Brilliance, Guanzhi and other companies have a certain basis for the use of ODX technology. Especially the emerging electric vehicle companies, because they are not constrained by the old platform, have unanimously adopted the latest ODX 2.2.0 standard.
