It is reported that this new paint is named Ecopaint. It can absorb toxic car exhaust, clear the city’s main air pollutants, and solve people’s breathing problems in busy traffic areas. After painting the walls with this paint, within five years, the painted walls will absorb like a sponge and neutralize toxic fumes in the air.
The secret of this coating is that it contains a very small spherical particle of titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate. The particles are mixed with a special, long-lived silicone material that absorbs toxic fumes. Then, ultraviolet light causes a special chemical reaction. Toxic nitric oxide is decomposed into nitric acid, and nitric acid is easily washed away by rainwater or converted into carbon dioxide, water, or calcium nitrate by alkaline particles of calcium carbonate.
This coating was developed in January 2004 by a British company under the auspices of the European Union. An expert from the company said that a layer of paint with a thickness of only 30 mm is enough to clean a highly polluted city.
